The four-star Miramar hotel, re-opened in 1997, is built in the Portuguese style and lies directly on the beach promenade in the diplomatic quarter of the capital city of São Tomé. It is managed by the experienced German hotel manager Manfred Galland. Neighbours are the main administration of the European Union and the Portuguese embassy. The hotel, offering excellent service, has over 50 fully air-conditioned double rooms, 4 suites and a Presidential Suite, all with views across the grounds or out to sea.
All rooms are equipped with telephone and television (via satellite). In addition, the hotel has a conference room for up to 140 people. The hotel grounds are outstanding, extremely well tended with tropical trees and plants and with a crystal clear 600 m2 fresh-water swimming pool that is unparalleled in West Africa. Excellent Portuguese cuisine is available in the hotel restaurant "Le Baron". Beautifully prepared fresh fish, fruit and vegetables of excellent quality are served each day. The spacious hotel bar "Chez Graziano" and the pavement café "Passante" (offering home-made cakes and pastries!) connected to the hotel are established meeting places for business people, politicians and other island visitors. On Fridays, the hotel barbeque is a regular society event.
